Volunteers create Quilt of Valour

Presentation of the Quilt of Valour Made by Volunteers and presented by volunteers

quilt-of-valour-presentation“On the 29th of April 2017, at the George Hotel, the President of the Ballarat RSL Alexandra Tascas, presented the Quilt of Honour to Alan Daly an army veteran.

Mr Daly was joined by his wife and children, and his parents and parents-in-law for morning tea before the official presentation of the quilt on behalf of the Quilts of Valour Organisation.

Alan and his family were delighted to receive the quilt and also enjoyed looking at the memorabilia in the Bull Allan Bar at the George Hotel.

The story the QoV in Australia began in Afghanistan when an Australian soldier was given a quilt by the USA chapter, he remarked it would be great if Australia could do the same thing.

Consequently, several quilting clubs formed the Quilts of Valour Australia and started awarding them to veterans who were suffering because of their service. This quilt was made in Ballarat.”

Thank you to Lynne from RSL support services for sharing this story.
