A Family Volunteering Affair

“Featured here are Lyn, Lauren and Geoff Brownbill, volunteers at Ballarat Health Services enjoying the National Volunteer Week afternoon tea and guest speaker event on May 10th.

Lyn is involved with the Welcome team in the hospital, Lauren volunteers in the Emergency Department and at Elizabeth Brown Planned activity group and Geoff delivers newspapers to the wards in the hospital. Oh, and brother Derek drives a bus for residents’ outings!

The Brownbill family are a glowing example of volunteering as a family value, which is often the very reason people volunteer. It can start quite early, with whole families participating in community events, such as ‘Clean up Australia’, ‘Million Paws Walk’ and ‘Relay for Life’. It then becomes an embedded activity in family life, which will encourage young people to seek out volunteering opportunities as they grow into adulthood.”
