An ode to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ballarat

In 2016, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ volunteer mentors selflessly:

  • Blitzed the art of Bath Bomb making
  • Wove head-pieces made of flowers
  • Lazed around on picnics
  • Cooled down by swimming
  • Tucked into fish and chips
  • Zoomed around the lake on bikes
  • Slurped through Slushies
  • Proudly attended school performances
  • Sung without realising it
  • Cooked pizzas, cupcakes, sausage rolls and lasagne
  • Learned how to keep plants alive Created gardens
  • Indulged in giant milkshakes
  • Simply chatted and shot the breeze
  • Strummed forgotten but rediscovered guitars
  • Gobbled Chocolate Teddy Bear Biscuits
  • Cut through the ice on other skates
  • Experimented with make-up
  • Window-shopped
  • Created Dream Catchers
  • Got lost Geocaching
  • Explored Ballarat on Epic Scavenger Hunts
  • Mosied along at the Zoo
  • Rolled around on skates
  • Hiked up Mount Buninyong
  • Had water fights Washed the car at the car wash
  • Relaxed at the library
  • Became amazed at the movies

… all with the young people they mentored

We thank them, and commend them, for their creativity and commitment, willingness to make a new friend, and for their bravery in the face of having fun!

Thank you to Taryn from Big Brothers Big Sisters Ballarat for this “story” (ode).
