RSL & Tramways Museum Celebrate National Volunteer Week

Ballarat RSL celebrated National Volunteer Week with a ride on the café tram newly restored by the Tramways Museum volunteers; a double volunteer experience.

We boarded the tram at the depot in Gillies Street at 10.30am, the tramways volunteers welcomed us and acted as guides and served the coffee and food as we glided along the lake.

The food was supplied by RSL volunteers and the coffee, tea and hot chocolate by the museum. Peter the barista kept us amused with commentary and made a mean cappuccino.RSL Vol week copy

In all we spent and hour and a half travelling between fairyland and the POW memorial in the comfort and opulence of the 1948 tram. Many memories of long gone activities in the botanical gardens such as the zoo and the maze were discussed with lots of laughs and animated conversations. A lovely way to spend time together and as it was a beautiful sunny morning, the gardens and lake looked magical in the starkness of winter.”
