Volunteer with Clemente
Learning Partners – tertiary
United Way Ballarat partners with Australian Catholic University Ballarat (ACU), Centacare Ballarat, City of Ballarat – Ballarat Libraries, The Smith Family Ballarat and Federation University Australia to provide this program. The Clemente Program offers the opportunity of tertiary education for people who for many and varied reasons, have never had that opportunity. Students who successfully complete four units are awarded a Certificate in Liberal Studies.
Students are enrolled at ACU who also cover their student fees. Community volunteers, recruited and supported by United Way Ballarat, act as ‘learning partners’ to students, giving support with planning, writing, research and learning computer skills. Centacare Ballarat and The Smith Family Ballarat recruit students, coordinate the program and provide personal support for the students. Both Universities provide academics who offer a positive experience of tertiary education. The City of Ballarat – Ballarat Libraries provide a non-threatening venue for the program to take place find out more about the program here.
Learning Partners are ideally people passionate about the goals of the program who have a background in teaching and/or tertiary study and who are able to guide students through the process of Tertiary study. Training and support is provided.
The committment is approximately 2 hours per week during University semesters.
