Win or Lose – the day was a success for the Ballarat Community

The 17th Red Lion United Way Ballarat Golf Classic was another rousing success with 22 teams teeing off for a day of fun and multiple chances to win a golf cart (with a hole-in-one).  Although no-one actually made a hole-in-one, it wasn’t for lack of enthusiasm or trying.

Prior to tee-off, the teams had an opportunity to bid for the benefit of an extra team member:  Victorian Junior State Team representative Bailey Holloway who was allowed to play six shots on behalf of the highest bidding team.  The Eclipse Ford team enjoyed the day with Bailey who also came complete with a fully stocked golf cart to help with getting around the course.

This year each team was paired with a project or organisation supported by United Way Ballarat and The Ballarat Foundation. The aim was to raise awareness of the reason for the day and why the fundraising is so important.  Each team was given something to signify the organisation they were playing on behalf of and were given information about the project.

The biggest winner of the day was the Ballarat community, with all proceeds going to the work of United Way Ballarat. Geoff Sharp, CEO of United Way Ballarat, thanked each and every person in the room as he wound up proceedings for making the day a huge success and for being so generous in helping support the community of Ballarat.

Event sponsor David Canny from The Red Lion is enthusiastic about being involved with the annual event: ‘It is a privilege to be able to join forces with United Way Ballarat in hosting this event and being able to get behind something that is making a difference in the lives of local people.’
