Will you help turn the statistics around?
Did you know that nearly 49% of people over 15 in Ballarat are unable to read beyond the level of around grade 4? That means that in a world full of forms, and so called “fine print” 49% of our community are not able to clearly understand the meaning of what they may be signing.
The Ballarat Imagination Library is working to change that statistic.
Research shows that children who are exposed to books and read to regularly before they get to school, will succeed. Children who have no books are left without the love of reading, start school behind and they never catch up.
Could you spare $7 a month (less than a coffee a fortnight) to put a book in the hands of a preschooler right here in Ballarat? We have 637 children on our waiting list with 218 of them having been waiting for a sponsor for 18 months.
With your help we can send a quality book to a Ballarat pre-schooler every month until they turn 5 along with resources to help parents read to their child. This will set them up with the necessary skills to succeed at school and go on to be proficient in literacy and able to understand that fine print when they are older.
