You made a difference at Christmas

Christmas 2014 brought out the generosity of the people of Ballarat as they sought out ways they could make a difference in the lives of others in our community.

At United Way Ballarat we heard of the following acts of kindness but we also know that there were so many more done by the community minded people in our city.  For all these acts of kindness we want to recognise and thank those who made a difference on behalf of those who received.

  • People purchased gift cards for UnitingCare to give struggling families the opportunity to purchase Christmas Dinner.
  • CASA (Ballarat Centre Against Sexual Assault) were able to provide $50 gift cards for their clients to add a bit of brightness to what can be a difficult time of year, again through the generosity of community members.  We heard stories of recipients being overwhelmed by their gift.
  • Centacare were able to distribute toys and clothing to struggling families thanks to community donations.
  • People donated time and goods to help Anglicare host a Christmas Dinner for those who found Christmas difficult due to loneliness or disadvantage.

United Way Ballarat is working to advance the common good of our community by focusing on Education, Income and Health.  These are the building blocks for a good life—a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.  United Way Ballarat asks all the citizens of Ballarat and surrounding areas to do three things: GIVE – money and goods; ADVOCATE – on behalf of those who cannot; and VOLUNTEER – to invest time in our community More about United Way Ballarat
